Princess Diana Overrules Guards, Meets Boy George
The future Queen of England met flamboyant pop singer Boy George in a London disco, apparently against the wishes of her security guards. She was wearing a tuxedo and George a dress.
Princess Diana, who was the guest of honor at a jazz ballet production at the Hippodrome club, spotted the singer sitting below her and sent word that she wanted to meet him, George said in a television interview.
But when he got in line to meet the princess, Buckingham Palace officials told him to get out of the line, George said.
“But just as her Buckingham Palace aide was hustling me away, she came across and shook my hand,” he said. “I was thrilled.”
He said Diana, wearing a dinner jacket with bow tie and trousers, complimented him on his outfit of black tights and a white dress.
