National City
Two men were killed late Tuesday when their sports car went off Interstate 5 just south of 24th Street in National City and landed upside down in a Sweetwater River marsh, the California Highway Patrol said.
A witness told CHP traffic investigators the car was traveling southbound at least 65 m.p.h about 10:30 p.m. when driver Larry Blair, 33, of Chula Vista, apparently lost control, CHP Officer Richard Clopine said.
The two men were trapped inside the car and a Life Flight physician pronounced Blair dead at the scene. The coroner’s office said the passenger, Robert G. Bruce, 37, also was dead at the scene.
Autopsies were pending to determine the exact cause of death.
