An extraordinary document on a Chicago cab driver who spent a lifetime working for peaceful relations between America and the Soviet Union. Polowsky--part of the American forces who reconnoitered with the Soviets at Torgau, Germany, in 1945--never forgot a promise to prevent another world war and strived to make the anniversary of the meeting an international day of remembrance. It’s appropriate that a German film maker should make this film, and Wolfgang Pfeiffer aptly finds the haunting resonance to convey this forgotten, committed man who took on the prevailing sentiments of the Cold War era and succeeded in touching the hearts of many in both his life and death.
