A Soviet airliner carrying 190 people skidded off a runway and its wing sliced through a snowbank as it was landing at Gander, Canada, on a flight from Moscow to Havana. No injuries were reported, but the cover was torn off one engine of the plane and several runway lights were smashed. The pilot managed to steer the jetliner back onto the runway and taxi to the terminal. Airport manager John Pittman said there was fog and light rain at the time of the mishap.
