Switzer Quoted in Newspaper as Saying Bosworth Is ‘History’ at Oklahoma
All-American linebacker Brian Bosworth will forgo his final year of eligibility at the University of Oklahoma, Coach Barry Switzer said Thursday.
“Bosworth has been gone since the Orange Bowl,” Switzer told the Norman Transcript Thursday. “It humors me to see the attention he gets. He’s gone. He’s history.”
Bosworth isn’t listed in the school’s spring football brochure.
Switzer would not elaborate on the statement and refused to confirm or deny it later Thursday, his secretary said.
Herb Machol, a New York-based spokesman for Bosworth, said Thursday that Bosworth has not decided whether to return for his final year of eligibility with the Sooners or make himself available for the National Football League supplemental draft. That decision has to be made before April 13.
Indianapolis has the second pick and Buffalo the third pick in this year’s NFL draft. Bosworth will probably be picked by one of those teams because Tampa Bay is expected to use its No. 1 pick to take Miami quarterback Vinny Testaverde.
Bosworth was unavailable for comment.
