Max M. Kampelman, the chief U.S. arms negotiator, suffered a minor heart attack and is being treated at George Washington University Hospital, State Department officials said Friday.

A department official said Kampelman experienced what he described as “heartburn” late Thursday and called his doctor, who told him to check into the hospital.

Kampelman, 66, was “found to have suffered a minor heart attack. He is expected to be up and around in a week,” an official said.
