When Heat Was On, These Hotdogs Just Couldn’t Cut Mustard

“In your face, baby” is a fitting epitaph for UCLA’s basketball team, as the hotdog Bruins wound up losing to a better hotdog in Wyoming’s Fennis Dembo. Yes, the Bruins are back--back home where they belong, watching the NCAA tournament on TV.

Everything was set up for UCLA this year. Not only did the NCAA increase the value of a field goal by 50%, for a so-called outside shot, but the Pac-10 created a postseason tournament to be played on UCLA’s home court.

Yet, all UCLA could do was defeat mighty Central Michigan (seeded 13 in the West). This was the Bruins first and only nonconference win on the road this season. Besides beating only weak Pac-10 teams or winning at home, UCLA proved only one thing: That it was vastly overrated.
