Kickers Try to Rebound on Field and at Gate

The California Kickers try to rebound on the field and in the stands when they play host to the Seattle Storm at Cal State Northridge’s North Campus Stadium on Sunday at 5:15 p.m.

After winning their opening game before a crowd of approximately 700 at CSUN two weeks ago, the Kickers dropped out of the top spot in the Western Soccer Alliance last week when they were beaten in overtime by the San Jose Earthquakes, 3-2. The Kickers were also losers at the gate, drawing only 350 fans.

Sunday’s game will be preceded at 3:30 by a high school all-star soccer tournament.

A plaque dedicated to the late Angelo Ruggerio will be unveiled today at Los Robles Greens in Thousand Oaks, the golf course that Ruggerio presided over for nearly 20 years as the head pro and course manager. Ruggerio died last August at 58. His wife, Mikki, who worked with her husband at Los Robles since 1964, now runs the course.

Last December, the Thousand Oaks City Council voted to create an honorary seat on the council in Ruggerio’s name.

Gymnast Adam Klein, 10, of Studio City won the all-around competition for boys 7-10 (Class 4) at the Region 1 All-Star competition last week in Reno. Klein competed for the Southern California Boys Gymnastics Assn., which won the team title over Northern California, Arizona, Nevada, Washington and Oregon.
