“Other Halves” (New Zealand, 1986, 3 p.m.). Based on a best-selling New Zealand novel, “Other Halves” centers on the scandalous relationship between a mature white woman and a teen-age Maori. Lisa Harrow valiantly attempts to breathe credibility into the situation, which fudges on the woman’s unhappy marriage. Her attraction to the boy--initially seemingly platonic--snowballs into passion without benefit of reason or logic. Neither angst-ridden nor the unbridling of social conventions, the affair is a dramatically unresolved curiosity.
