“Emma’s War” (Australia, 1987, 12:30 p.m.). Clytie Jessop’s first feature is a heavily autobiographical teen-age recollection of her war experiences in Sydney and in a remote mountain village. The film errs toward story, leaving the nuance of the events and its implications on her psyche dangling. Wonderfully mounted with fine performances from Miranda Otto as Emma and Lee Remick as her American-born mother, it remains a sketch for a more poignant portrait.
