Ben Cason, who joined United Press International two months ago as managing editor for news, was promoted to editor of the news agency. UPI President Milton R. Benjamin will relinquish the title of editor.

Cason, 44, was assistant managing editor of the Washington Post for 10 years before joining UPI in January. Until a replacement is named, Cason will handle duties as managing editor for news, which include supervising financial, sports, features, regional and photo coverage.
