A light truck and two vans performed poorly in National Highway Traffic Safety Administration tests, the agency announced Friday.

The Isuzu Spacecab pickup, the Chevrolet G-20 van and the Ford Aerostar, a minivan, all scored above 1,000 in “head injury criteria” when they were rammed head-on into a wall at 35 m.p.h., or 5 m.p.h. faster than the 30 m.p.h. required to comply with federal safety standards. The tested vehicles carry dummies in place of people.

A score of 1,000 is the equivalent of critical brain injury or death.

The Isuzu scored 1,764 in head injury criteria for the driver and 1,067 for a front-seat passenger. The G-20 van scored 1,387 for the driver and 1,719 for the passenger, and the Aerostar, 1,568 for the driver and 1,070 for the passenger.

The agency plans to crash-test 38 models of 1987 vehicles.
