The Nation : Balloon Crash Kills One

Share

A hot air balloon carrying sightseers over the Wasatch Mountains in Utah hit a power line, collapsed and crashed in the resort community of Jeremy Ranch, killing one man and injuring the eight other people aboard. According to reports, the balloon sailed five miles before it hit the electrical wires above Interstate 80, about 20 miles east of Salt Lake City. It had taken off from the ski resort in Park City. After collapsing, the balloon separated from the gondola, which plunged 50 feet to the ground and tumbled, tossing out people as it rolled, reports said. Witnesses said they saw sparks flying and small explosions erupting on the gondola. Officials linked the explosions to propane tanks on the gondola.
