A Trilateral Commission task force lauded Mexico, among other debtor nations, as a country trying hard to pay its bills and improve its economic position. The compliments came a day after Mexico signed agreements for $7.7 billion in new loans while seeking to reassure lenders that the money would be spent wisely in an atmosphere of economic modernization. The four-man task force, meeting in San Francisco, concluded that all debt-laden nations will need additional credit in order to grow and pay off their obligations. The commission is a private, non-governmental discussion group made up of influential citizens.
