A: Kiwi fruit can be grown in most Southern California climatic zones, provided the plants are given enough water and are fertilized regularly. Pollination and fruit set can take place only if male and female plants are planted. Of the female varieties, ‘Chico’ and ‘Hayward’ are the most reliable. Kiwi vines need plenty of support as they grow, so use a trellis that is sturdy and large.
