James Medvitz has been appointed to the new post of general manager of the Pacific Symphony, effective immediately.

Medvitz’s duties will involve overseeing artistic and production details of concerts and working with conductor Keith Clark in planning future musical events, the symphony has announced.

A native of Long Beach, Medvitz graduated from UCLA with a degree in music, spent 11 years with the Houston Symphony as music librarian and most recently was orchestra librarian with the San Diego Symphony.

Medvitz assumed his position with the San Diego Symphony in August, 1986. But that organization suspended concert activities the following month pending still unresolved contract negotiations between the orchestra’s musicians and management.
