Wink Martindale ended 36 years in radio with an “amicable” parting from KMPC last week, he told The Times on Monday. Martindale’s 2-5:30 p.m. show would have been reduced to two hours when the station brings in an all-sports format at 4 p.m April 6. “There seemed to be no sense in them continuing to pay my substantial salary for only two hours of work,” Martindale said. “Plus, I have my own production company and it was getting more difficult to go to KMPC every day.” Martindale planned to leave in July anyway, when his contract expired. “I have ambivalent feelings about getting out of radio,” he reflected. “I’ve always loved it.”
