The Nation : Homeless Bill Introduced

Share

Senate leaders introduced legislation to provide new aid for the homeless that could cost about $400 million this year. The House has approved a similar bill with a price tag of $500 million. Senate Majority Leader Robert C. Byrd (D-W.Va.) in remarks on the floor, said the measure has bipartisan support, adding that Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole (R-Kan.) also is a sponsor. Byrd said he had asked the chairmen of the four committees with jurisdiction over parts of the bill to act quickly so that the Senate could vote on it before Easter recess begins April 10.
