The victory gave Edmonton 97 points, two more than the Philadelphia Flyers in the battle for the best record in the National Hockey League.

Ruotsalainen, who left the New York Rangers after last season in protest of then-Coach Ted Sator’s disciplinary style, played in Switzerland this season and joined the Oilers when the Swiss league ended.
