Reagan’s ‘Performance’ at His Press Conference

Share

Of late I have become increasingly aware of the term “performance” to describe President Reagan’s appearances in public. Even our congressmen’s appraisal of his latest press conference referred to his fine “performance.” Alas, when we become accustomed to appraising his appearance thusly, as on the the silver screen, rather than concentrating on content--one becomes enchanted by his twinkling eyes, his cute retort, his charming smile, and his loping gait entering and leaving helicopters.

It might constitute a strain on everyone, but I suggest that it is advantageous to listen to what our politicians say, not how they say it.
