Doctors transplanted a heart into a 27-year-old woman this month, and the patient is doing well, making her the longest surviving heart transplant recipient in Soviet medical history, according to the Communist Party daily Pravda.

The transplant was carried out March 12, the newspaper said Friday. The operation took more than four hours and had not been mentioned previously in the media.
