The chairman of the House Public Works and Transportation Committee criticized the Reagan Administration’s proposed highway bill, charging that the measure would eliminate 125,000 jobs. Rep. James J. Howard (D-N.J.) said the Administration plan, which is expected to be presented in Congress this week, also would jeopardize completion of the interstate highway system. “That is assuming Congress is even willing to pass sight unseen a massive transportation proposal, with at least 30 major policy changes, that was dumped on our doorstep late Friday afternoon,” Howard said in a prepared statement. Reagan vetoed the $88-billion highway bill Friday.
