Hemdale Film Corp., the producer and distributor of the Oscar-winning film “Platoon,” does not have to turn over prints of the movie to Vestron Inc. so they can be converted to videocassette, a Los Angeles judge ruled Monday. Vestron, based in Stamford, Conn., claimed in a suit against Hemdale’s film and video divisions that they had failed to live up to an agreement giving Vestron exclusive video distribution rights. But Superior Court Judge Ricardo Torres refused to order Hemdale to turn over prints of “Platoon” and “Hoosiers” to Vestron, commenting that he didn’t feel that an immediate order would be proper or that Vestron would suffer irreparable harm before a hearing on a preliminary injunction April 16.
