NORMAN, IS THAT YOU TOO?

Former Winston and Jordache man Kurt Paul, 30, currently portraying Norman Bates in Universal’s “The Bates Motel” two-hour pilot movie (to air next month on NBC, with a probable series in the fall), is no stranger to the demented Bates clan: Though it wasn’t publicized, he was in drag as Norman’s Mom in “Psycho 2” and “3.”

The Tony Perkins look-alike got stunt man credit for his “Psycho” sequel work to keep the identity of Mrs. Bates secret, per an agreement with producer Hilton A. Green.

When Perkins first asked his stunt man to play Mother Bates, Paul said he couldn’t do it. Perkins’ reply: “Why not, I did it in the original!” (Perkins, you’ll recall, maimed and killed wearing Mrs. Bates’ dress and wig.)

(Paul currently plays another Norman--coroner Norman Blates on “Sledge Hammer”--and guest starred as Norman Banes on “Knight Rider.”)

Bud Cort stars in “The Bates Motel” as Alex West, Normie’s best pal for 27 years while they were institutionalized, who inherits the creepy hostelry from abnormal Norm. Paul appears in flashbacks, aging from 26 to 67.

But feature freaks, take heart: A “Psycho 4” flick is still being considered.
