The Los Angeles County assessor said the total tax roll for 1986-87 is up $26.2 billion over 1985-86, representing a 9.3% increase in the value of assessable property. Assessor John Lynch gave credit to his staff for locating and valuing property, noting that the staff had postponed vacations in some instances to help reorganize the office. The assessor is charged with maintaining records on more than two million parcels of land and 300,000 businesses, the largest taxing jurisdiction in the nation in terms of assessed value.
