A leader of the Mormon Church told followers that “sexual adventurism” has contributed to the spread of AIDS and said chastity and marital fidelity are the best safeguard against it. In remarks prepared for the annual Mormon conference in Salt Lake City, Gordon B. Hinckley, counselor to the church’s president, said sex education courses sometimes stem from a philosophy that ridicules fidelity and glamorizes extramarital sex. He urged church members to “rise above carnal attractions that often result in the tragedies that follow moral transgression.”
