Employers would be forbidden to secretly listen in on the telephone calls of their workers under legislation in the House to amend the federal wiretapping law. The bill by Rep. Don Edwards (D-San Jose) and 16 co-sponsors would require a repeating audible “beep” tone notifying employees, customers or other parties on the opposite end of the line that a call was being monitored.
