Alan Shestack, director of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, has been chosen as director of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Museum trustees on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of the 48-year-old New York native, who succeeds Jan Fontein. Fontein, 60, is retiring after 12 years as director. Shestack will assume his new post Sept. 8, said museum spokeswoman Jane Norris. The Museum of Fine Arts, which serves 1 million visitors a year, has one of the world’s most complete collections of Asian art.
