TRAVELING EXHIBIT FROM IRELAND : 17TH-CENTURY DUTCH ARTWORKS TO BE SHOWN AT BOWERS MUSEUM

Dutch paintings of the 17th Century have made their way to Orange County via the National Gallery of Ireland, in an exhibition that opens Saturdayat the Bowers Museum.

The 38 paintings in the traveling exhibit include “Portrait of a Lady” by Ferdinand Bol, “A Lady Playing a Lute” by Jan Mytens, “A Wooded Landscape” by Jacob van Ruisdael and “Christ in the Synagogue at Nazareth” by Gerbrandt van den Eeckhout.

In all, 37 artists are represented in the show.

The National Gallery of Ireland holds nearly 200 Dutch works from the era, most of them acquired between 1870 and 1910. The paintings in the traveling exhibit are being shown for the first time in the United States.

“Dutch Paintings of the Golden Age” will be on display at Bowers through May 31; from there it will travel to Midland, Mich., Charlotte, N.C., Miami and New York City.

The show is organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service.

The Bowers Museum, at 2002 N. Main St. in Santa Ana, is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
