Firing of Campanis Ends 46 Years of Service to Baseball

If Al Campanis’ statements on “Nightline” are a true reflection of his personal beliefs, he should have been dismissed by the Dodgers many years ago. On the other hand, if, by his actions over 46 years in baseball, he has never shown any signs of being prejudiced toward minorities, Peter O’Malley should have supported his apology and stood behind Campanis.

Whichever is the case, Mr. O’Malley failed to do the responsible thing.
