Reagan Places the Blame

Share

Reagan smugly blames the Russians for the Marine guard/spy scandal, saying, “There’s no excuse for what the Soviets did.”

Blame, however, rests clearly on Reagan’s shoulders.

A Times story (April 11): “A top FBI counterintelligence expert gave President Reagan . . . a devastating critique of Moscow Embassy security” in 1983. Yet Reagan, who has always hailed himself as the protector of American interests against Communist incursion, obviously did nothing to correct the problem.

The American people should realize Reagan’s laid-back, “hands-off” management style has allowed him to escape blame for the shortcomings of his Administration time and time again. He is our President. He is supposedly in charge. And he should stand up and take the blame for the problems he has created for our country.
