New York-based Schlumberger Ltd. posted a big drop in net income from continuing operations for the first quarter of 1987. However, 1986 results excluded the loss of $45 million at Fairchild Semiconductor, which was reported as a discontinued operations. A spokesman said that the decrease in net income from continuing operations was mainly due to an overall decline in oil-field services, which, compared to the fourth quarter of 1986, have improved due to lower operating costs and firmer prices.
