CAMPBELL’S VOTES ON 27 KEY BILLS

Here are Sen. William Campbell’s votes in 1985-86 on legislation of interest to the National Organization for Women, Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, the California Federation of Business and Professional Women, and On the Capitol Doorstep, a newsletter for child care providers. Of the 27 bills listed, Campbell’s votes on the Senate floor went with the interest groups on four and against them on four. He also voted against the interest groups on two issues in Senate committees. On 19 bills, Campbell was either absent or did not vote when they reached the Senate floor.

AB 613--To require employers to grant up to four months of child-rearing leave. Campbell did not vote. Bill died in Senate committee.

AB 1617--To prohibit use of corporal punishment in schools. Did not vote. Bill became law.

AB 2459--To prohibit abortion on minors unless parental or juvenile court consent obtained. Voted in favor. Bill died in Assembly.

AB 2635--To require local private industry councils to promote non-traditional jobs for women. Voted in favor. Bill became law.

AB 3242--To allow renewal of child- or spousal-support judgments in manner consistent with renewal of other judgments. Did not vote. Bill enacted.

AB 3246--To establish standards for special-education infant programs. Voted in favor. Bill became law.

AB 3407--To prohibit discrimination against people with AIDS and liberalize law regarding disclosure of AIDS test results. Did not vote. Bill vetoed.

AB 3572--To provide local government new ways of obtaining sites for child-care programs. Voted in favor. Vetoed by governor.

AB 3656--To appropriate $150,000 for development of comprehensive directory of programs for parent education, parenting skills and child-abuse prevention. Did not vote. Vetoed by governor.

AB 3696--To appropriate $5 million for cost-of-living increases for state-subsidized child-care programs. Did not vote. Bill died in conference committee.

AB 4244--To appropriate $110,000 for three pilot projects designed to improve teen-agers’ self-images and reduce pregnancies and high school dropout rates. Did not vote. Bill vetoed.

AB 4327--To require state Department of Education to distribute materials for prevention of teen pregnancy and to assist local school districts with the optional development of teen pregnancy prevention programs. Did not vote. Bill became law.

AB 4328--To require Department of Health Services to fund at least three pilot programs providing health clinics in schools serving grades seven through 12, with services to include birth control counseling. Did not vote. Bill vetoed.

SB 7--To prohibit unemancipated minors from receiving abortions without consent of parent, guardian or Superior Court. Voted in favor in committee; did not vote on Senate floor. Bill died in Assembly.

SB 111--To extend authorization for programs providing preventive dental treatment and education for children in grades kindergarten through sixth. Did not vote. Bill became law.

SB 173--To require Department of Aging to establish at least five programs to provide temporary care for frail elderly and functionally disabled adults. Did not vote. Bill became law.

SB 466--To increase amount a recipient of Aid to Families with Dependent Children could receive for immediate assistance. Did not vote. Bill vetoed.

SB 772--To prohibit discrimination in housing based on a person’s source of income. Did not vote. Bill vetoed.

SB 987--To require the Department of Health Services to establish or expand follow-up care for high-risk infants. Did not vote. Bill vetoed.

SB 1071--To establish guarantees for equal protection by both spouses in management and control of their property. Did not vote. Bill became law.

SB 1155--To require state Department of Health Services to compile demographic information on abortions and report to the Legislature every two years. Voted in favor. Bill died in Assembly committee.

SB 1957--To create advisory commission to evaluate existing compensation and classification for state employees and determine where inequities exist based on comparisons of value of work performed, intended to make salaries in fields dominated by women equal to those in comparable fields dominated by men. Voted against in committee and did not vote on Senate floor. Bill vetoed.

SB 2047--To require court in child-custody proceedings to consider history of abuse or violence by one parent against the other. Voted in favor. Bill died in Assembly.

SB 2169--To expand conditions under which a prostitute can be arrested and charged. Voted in favor. Bill became law.
