Watson to Develop Additional Warehouse Buildings in Carson

Share

Responding to a shortage of industrial facilities in the South Bay, Watson Land Co. this year will develop about 600,000 square feet of speculative and build-to-suit industrial buildings in the Carson area.

The Carson-based firm’s 1987 development activity includes construction of 390,000 square feet of speculative facilities in the 750-acre Watson Industrial Center South and the 175-acre Watson Alameda Industrial Center. The firm also will construct a 145,000-square-foot distribution center for Maruzen of America in the Watson Alameda Industrial Center.

“The shortage of suitable warehouse and distribution space for companies doing business with Pacific Rim firms has created a demand for industrial facilities close to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach,” according to Richard M. Cannon, Watson’s president. Cannon added that the biggest demand is by users of 50,000 to 200,000 square feet.
