Seattle-based Boeing Co. reported a drop in profit of 20% on a rise in revenue for the first quarter due in part to higher research and development costs and productivity problems at its De Havilland Aircraft unit in Canada. A spokesman said the aerospace giant’s obligation to carry an increasing share of the costs of government contracts also cut into its earnings for the three-month period.
