Two-time Wimbledon champion Boris Becker is suffering from a “type of typhus,” according to the head of one of his major sponsoring companies.
The 19-year-old West German tennis ace was forced to withdraw from the WCT Finals in Dallas earlier this month after the recurrence of an unexplained stomach ailment.
He then took some time off to recover but complained of feeling weak after losing in the second round of last week’s Monte Carlo Open.
“Boris has a type of typhus. He must get over it,” Puma company chief Armin Dassler was quoted as saying in an interview with the West German magazine Neue Revue.
Typhus often causes intestinal discomfort.
