Gary Hart’s Campaign Debt

Regarding Times coverage (April 17-18) of former Sen. Gary Hart’s (D-Colo.) visit to Los Angeles and the marshals’ seizure of $30,000 in campaign funds, I would like to offer the following comments:

Hart’s rather casual concern and lame response to the seizure of his presidential campaign funds to pay off past campaign debts leaves Hart in no position to be critical of anyone when it comes to economic policy.

Hart contracted for services in connection with his campaign in 1984 and those vendors had every right to expect they would be paid in full for services.

If he cannot be responsible in his own campaign, how can we be expected to swallow his promises of economic revitalization? Sounds a little like the standard political position of spend it when you don’t have it and worry about it later.
