French Cheese Recalled Due to Listeria Bacteria
United Press International
WASHINGTON —
The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday recalled contaminated gourmet cheese that officials said could be fatal to pregnant women and their babies.
The cheese, containing a bacteria called Listeria monocytogenes, also can harm people with weakened immune systems, the officials said.
The FDA said the Saint Nectaire Soft Full-fat Cheese, made by Centre Lait of Cedex, France, was sold between April 14 and April 16 at specialty food stores in New York and Texas.
