Hollywood : Hearing Set for Mini-Mall Plan

Share

Councilman Michael Woo’s proposal to establish an immediate freeze on the construction of mini-shopping malls in his district will be heard by the Los Angeles Planning Commission at 9:30 a.m. May 7 at 425 S. Palos Verdes St., San Pedro.

The freeze would apply to commercial lots of less than 45,000 square feet and last for at least six months. Woo can then apply for another six-month extension of the moratorium. Woo has said the freeze is necessary because of the rapid growth in the number of mini-malls, which he labeled as “quick and cheap” ways to make money. The councilman favors new planning laws that would encourage more pedestrian use of streets in commercial areas.
