Sweetwater’s Refusal
Times writer Nancy Ray’s article on the impasse between Sweetwater Authority and the Pointe was right on target. As a Friend of Sweetwater Lake committee member, I see the frustration experienced by the group in the attitude expressed by water authority board member Cary Wright that he won’t support the proposal even though it may prove beneficial to his constituents, the public.
Among water experts outside the Sweetwater Authority, there is little argument that the benefits proposed by the reservoir protection and enhancement proposal are important both locally and regionally. Mr. Wright would apparently reject the proposal, even if an objective evaluation revealed that it was risk-free and beneficial to the water source. This attitude is tragic.
Friends of Sweetwater Lake seeks, in the interest of a safe and dependable water supply, a fair, comprehensive study of the Pointe proposal. We see no jeopardy in learning the truth.
