‘The Court Tunes Out’

Your editorial looked at the right evidence, but drew the wrong conclusion. The justice system is not as racist as you would like to believe. Rather, isn’t it true that families of white defendants can generally afford better attorneys than families of black defendants?

Yes, as the justices indirectly noted, there is a discrepancy in our justice system. It is that a better-paid attorney can generally obtain a better result than a lesser-paid attorney or public defender. It is simplistic to cry racism. It is a little more difficult to look deeper and confront the effect of superior white wealth on our justice system.
