Shooting at Newspaper Plant
United Press International
ANCHORAGE, Alaska —
A laid-off newspaper employee entered the press area and mail room of the Anchorage Daily News and opened fire with a shotgun today, killing another mail room employee.
“You’re dead meat,” he told a female employee, while pausing to reload his weapon. She escaped before he could resume firing. Derek Green, 30, the former mail room employee, was taken into custody moments later after a violent struggle with police. Green was one of 20 people fired last week in a budget-cutting move.
