Walt Frazier credited his “style” and Pete Maravich his childhood dedication to basketball, but Rick Barry, silenced by a throat infection, could only scribble “this is the ultimate achievement” in a reporter’s notebook.

They were among those inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.

Also installed were Bobby Wanzer, who starred for Seton Hall and the Rochester Royals in the early 1950s, and hook-shot ace Bob Houbregs, who averaged 34.8 points a game while leading the University of Washington to a third-place NCAA tournament finish in 1953.
