State Honors 7 Elementary Schools
Seven San Fernando Valley-area schools Friday were named Distinguished Elementary Schools by state Supt. of Instruction Bill Honig.
Honoring schools with successful educational programs is part of a state school recognition program launched last year. Schools compete with other campuses in a similar socioeconomic group. Winners are judged as being the best all-around school for each grade level.
This year, 248 schools were selected from the state’s 4,500 elementaries.
Local schools honored were: Meadows in Valencia; Wiley Canyon in Newhall; Highlands, Saugus; Rosedell, Saugus; Skyblue Mesa, Canyon Country; Balboa Boulevard Gifted and High Achieving Magnet, Northridge, and San Fernando Elementary in San Fernando.
