U.S. CUSTOMS NABS CHER!
Tri-Star Pictures wanted the U.S. Customs Service HQ for the opening scene of its thriller “Suspect.” And Customs wanted stars for its anti-drug TV spots. So director Peter Yates got his backdrop--and Customs got Cher.
She’ll appear in two 30-second spots filmed in Toronto, where the film is finishing. The pic has Cher as a public defender representing a homeless man accused of murder. Dennis Quaid is a key jury member. Customs is delighted: “Movie stars are looked up to and admired by both young and old,” said Customs spokesman Thomas Torr.
One of the spots is “a personal message that (Cher) pretty much rewrote from the script provided. . . . The up-shot is: ‘Please don’t do drugs--I don’t.’ ” The other includes advice on how to get help for drug problems.
Both will be available to TV stations in July.
