No Inspectors’ Licenses

Regarding the article (March 1) on home inspectors, I submit the following:

At present there is no licensing requirements for home inspectors in California. The Contractors’ State License Board has no jurisdiction over home inspectors. The board only has jurisdiction over the trades that are licensed.

Anyone contemplating having a home inspection should be skeptical when an inspection company directly or indirectly gives the impression that it is licensed as home inspectors. This reference is usually to a contractor’s license of some classification, not an inspector’s license. At present there is also virtually no bonding and no insurance available to the home-inspection industry.
