Chocolate-lovers may be distressed by a new study that found the object of their affection, the renowned confectionary cure for heartache, is also a primary cause of heartburn. In people already prone to acid indigestion, even a few tablespoons of chocolate can induce the familiar irritation of the esophagus, also known as heartburn, Dr. Donald Castell, chairman of gastrology at Bowman Gray School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, N.C., said at a meeting of digestive disease specialists in Chicago.
