Candelaria Is Arrested Again; CHP Says Car Was ‘Weaving’

Pitcher John Candelaria of the Angels was arrested Thursday, for the second time in four weeks, for investigation of driving while intoxicated.

The pitcher was cited and released from Orange County Jail at 4:24 a.m. Thursday. He was stopped by California Highway Patrol officers on the southbound Santa Ana Freeway at 2:50 a.m., shortly after the Angels returned from a nine-day trip.

Candelaria, 33, still faces charges from his April 17 drunken-driving arrest, which occurred after Orange County Sheriff’s deputies stopped him for allegedly running a stop sign and a red light.

Candelaria was dealt his first loss in five decisions this season Wednesday night, allowing seven runs in two innings of the Angels’ 10-7 loss to the Tigers at Detroit.

Candelaria was stopped Thursday after his Mercedes-Benz was sighted “weaving” on the Santa Ana Freeway, CHP officer Paul Caldwell said.

CHP officers said Candelaria failed a field sobriety test but was given a blood test at the jail. The results of that test will not be available for about a week.

Caldwell said Candelaria was cooperative with arresting officers.
