‘No Rescue in Bill to Save Pound Animals’

Alas, Trull’s article is off the mark. Most of us who live with animals, love them, worry about them, take them to the vet for their shots and if they breathe funny, are in favor of Rep. Mrazek’s bill, identified as HR 778, because we like to think that if, God forbid!, our pet ever decides to visit the country without us and is picked up by the pound, that he or she will be saved for us, sold to another loving home or, as a last resort, put to a peaceful and final sleep.

Ideally, no animal would ever again be used in an experiment. Perhaps one day Congress will realize that convicted felons would make terrific subjects for scientists (and a concomitant result of such a law might be a decrease in violent crime--Aha!). In the meantime, at least no animal that has learned to trust the human species will be tortured by it. Let’s stop pound seizure now.
