Accidents and Car-Pool Lanes

Share

I, too, am upset over the car-pool-lane issue. But I don’t believe that Peter J. Pischl (Letters, May 10) has offered the right solution.

You don’t need two licensed drivers in a car in order to have a car pool. All you need are the passengers the second driver would have carried, which can but does not have to include the driver him- or herself. For instance, I car-pool with my wife, when I save her a trip by driving our children to school on my way to work.

On the other hand, having two licensed drivers in a car does not necessarily constitute a car pool either. I could carry my wife to work with me; but if she was not planning to go otherwise, we are not reducing vehicles on the road. Hence, no car pool.

Really, I don’t see how you can go further than to require that there be two individuals , of course. Anything more than that would require Big Brother information-keeping to work properly. Anything less would rubber stamp the farce our courts have committed.
